Programme Avanti!

Avanti! which in the mean time has turned into a classic at the Ghent Festival of Flanders, is organised on 26 September from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This musical cycling tour was sold out in no time last year and attracted over 3,500 sports enthusiasts and music lovers. The longest orchestra in the world - Top Luchterenstraat -Drongen
continuous between 12 pm and 1 pm

Ghent Flanders Festival loves to stray away from the beaten track. This edition of Avanti wishes to analyse to what extent an orchestra can be dispersed over a longer distance. Not as a bunch, mind you, but rather in a linear fashion. The famous Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu once remarked that a melody needs to cut its way through the orchestra. The longest orchestra in the world wishes to illustrate this journey. You are invited to cycle past this unique orchestra for an equally unique musical experience.

Composers Boudewijn Buckinx and Frank Nuyts took on the challenge to write two extremely short street operas. These two gems looked just like the perfect repertoire for Avanti.
